16 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University (TSU) will launch online courses on the
educational platform Coursera, the press service of the higher education
institution reports.
It is
reported that the delegation of the higher education institution headed by the
rector Edaurd Galazhinsky met Dafna Koller – a president and a co-founder of
the leading world platform of online education Coursera in Moscow. The parties
discussed prospects of cooperation and start of the first courses of the
university on the platform.
"Dafna
Koller presented TSU as one of three new Russian partners. Registration is
already open for three online courses of TSU. It gives to the university new
scales of audience. There is a huge audience On Coursera which totals more than
13 million people", – the press service quotes the director of the
Institute of remote education of TSU Galina Mozhaeva.

As it is
reported on the platform's website, the higher education institution will
present six courses: "Life in the soil", "Russian as an
instrument of successful communication", "3D-print for all and
everyone", "The Changing Arctic" (a course of the Nobel laureate
Terry Callaghan), "Introduction to parallel programming" and
"Catchers of people" or social networks in media".
Almost all
TSU courses are Russian-speaking, except
for a course of Callaghan devoted to development of the Arctic. This
requirement of Coursera where Russian-speaking audience grows.
Coursera is
a project in the sphere of mass online education based by professors of
informatics of Stanford University Andrew Ng and Dafna Koller. There is a
project on publication of educational materials on the Internet in the form of
a set of free online courses in its framework. The project cooperates with
universities which publish and conduct courses in the system on various
branches of knowledge.
