TOMSK, Apr 11 – RIA Tomsk. Students of virtual design office of Space Instrument-Making Centre of
Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) on the eve of Cosmonautics Day gathered and
launched into the stratosphere small training satellite StratoSat, reported in
the press-service of the university on Monday.
It is specified that the satellite represents the device weighing up to 1,5
kilograms supplied with sensors. It works in a stratosphere (the atmosphere
layer which is located at the height from 11 to 50 kilometers). The device is
started in a stratosphere in the balloon.
"During the first, trial flight on the eve of Cosmonautics Day,
StratoSat investigated changes of pressure of air masses at different heights
and device overload degree at various stages of flight. Collected information
will allow to improve the software of the satellite and to prepare him for
future researches of school and university students", – it is said in the
message.

It is added that a satellite platform – StratoSat – rather inexpensive and
simple in production. Students could assemble the device by own efforts, having
printed part of details on the 3D-printer. According to the director of
Institute of Non-Destructive Testing of TPU Valery Borikov, to whom the
press-service refers, the launched educational satellite will allow to check
its elements of a design and electronics "in the conditions close to
conditions of outer space".
"StratoSat will allow to make near space
more clear for school and university students. It is simple in creation and
launching, therefore with its help children will be able to conduct regularly
their own space researches", – the press-service quotes the engineer of
the department of precision instrument making of Institute of Non-Destructive
Testing of TPU Andrey Kolomeytsev.
