The Estonian higher education institutions are interested in cooperation with Tomsk universities, in particular, in the sphere of philology, history and ethnography, the ambassador of Estonia in Russia Arti Hilpus reported at the meeting with representatives of Tomsk State University

The ambassador of Estonia works in Tomsk on May 24-27. Meeting with the governor Sergey Zhvachkin, visit of higher education institutions and museums of Tomsk, and also a trip to the Estonian villages of Beryozovka and Liliyengofk are in the program of his visit.

"For us it is important to keep channels of the academic communication. Our time, maybe, is not the best to develop the economic relations, but I don't see any obstacles in the field of culture and education. We hope that this visit will serve as a good impulse. <…> (For example) history, philology and ethnography are areas of interest for Tartu Iniversity (one of the leading universities of Estonia)", – Hilpus told.

According to him, cooperation in respect of training programs for students and the academic mobility is also possible. He noted that representatives not only diplomatic corps are part of the delegation, but also the Estonian higher education institutions, for example, professor of Tartu University Aadu Must who just supervises historical, philological and ethnographic projects.

In turn the rector of TSU Eduard Galazhinsky emphasized that there are already contacts with Tartu University, however Tomsk scientists would like to cooperate also with other higher education institutions of Estonia. Besides, TSU is interested in exchange of experience on the questions concerning impact of higher education institution on the region.

"The exchange of practicians in this area would also be important: as the university can effect development of the region, country how to measure this influence", – the rector of TSU added.
