Earlier it
was reported that TSU and TPU have significantly improved the positions in the
rating of QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) and have for the first time entered in
top-400 the best higher education institutions of the world. TSU has risen from
group 481-490 to the 377th position, and TPU has taken the 400th place of the
rating. Among the Russian higher education institutions the State University
became the seventh, and Polytechnic University – the eighth. In total in the
general rating 22 Russian higher education institutions are presented.
According
to data of the rating, no Russian higher education institution entered top-500
on a quoting indicator in scientific publications. As rectors of the Tomsk
higher education institutions note, it is caused by rather recent participation
of the Russian universities in ratings while one of requirements is already
saved up result.
"We
have very small history... We are guided generally by high-rating magazines, by
high-quality publications. Of course, it is extremely difficult to catch up with those higher education
institutions which in such conditions work long ago on this indicator. But we
move quite successful. We increase indicators on quoting by two-three times
annually", – the rector of TPU Pyotr Chubik noted at the press conference
in the RIA Tomsk media center.
As the
rector of TSU Eduard Galazhinsky added, the share of the Russian scientific articles
in world base is small – it is lower than 2%.
"Strategy
is only one – to be guided by high quality magazines. We have 50% of articles –
about 900 – in the best magazines of the world. But hit cycle there is long …
It is a step three years at least. <…> Universities from the first
hundred give about 5-7 thousand articles a year – those which we have
900", – he noted.
The rating
QS World University Rankings 2016/2017 is annually made by the QS Quacquarelli
Symonds company and it is considered one of the most prestigious. Assessment of
the best universities of the world in the rating of QS is made on the basis of
six criteria: the academic reputation, reputation among employers, a teachers
ratio to number of students, a quoting index, a share of foreign students, and
also foreign teachers.
