TOMSK, Oct 14 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) developed the device allowing to weld quickly and cheaply seams of pipelines after magnetic defectoscopy; prototypes of the device which doesn't have analogs are introduced by several oil and gas companies of Russia, the press service of the university reported on Friday.

It is explained that magnetic defectoscopy – is a way of checking pipes on existence of cracks and deformations by means of their magnetization. At a transmission of a magnetic flux through a detail in the locations of defects, there is a consolidation of magnetic power lines on which it's possible to find the damaged section of the pipe. The damaged part is cut out, and on it's place put the new one. Further it is necessary to weld pipes together.

According to TPU, after checking by the magnetic defectoscope the welded elements remain magnetized because of what it is impossible to carry out process of arc welding. To degauss a pipe, oil industry workers and gas workers use the special expensive equipment. Process of preparation for demagnetization is long, the pipeline is blocked for days or two.

"Employees (TPU) proposed the innovative solution of this problem. Developed by scientists device which doesn't have analogs for arc welding of the magnetized products – is the inverter of welding current IST-201 – allows to make welding of pipes without their preliminary demagnetization", – reports the university.

It is specified that the device allows to carry out welding of pipes in few hours, and instead of the whole group of personnel only welders are involved. "Also the enterprise manages to save significantly on purchase and service of the special equipment for demagnetization of a pipe", – is added in the message.

According to the press service, prototypes of IST-201 are introduced at the JSC "Surgutneftegas" enterprises, JSC "Tomskneft" EOC, "Azot" and others. Tests on the operating objects of JSC "Transneft-Tsentralnaya Sibir" and LLC "Gazprom transgaz Tomsk" which have confirmed increase efficiency of the device are carried out.
