TOMSK, Nov 29 –
RIA Tomsk. St. Petersburg International Institute of
Biological Systems (IIBS) n.a. Sergey Berezin will act as investor of positron
emission tomography center (PET-center) in Tomsk for early detection of cancer
– the agreement was signed on Tuesday; organization plans to invest 500 million
rubles, correspondent of RIA Tomsk tells.
Earlier it was reported that
the investor intends to create in Tomsk the PET-center for early diagnostics of
metastasises at cancer patients, monitoring and assessment of efficiency of the
carried-out treatment. He was ready to invest 500 million rubles in an object.
It is not the first attempt to construct a similar object in Tomsk – earlier
the PET-Technology company (enters Rusnano) began on the project, but refused
because of own difficulties.
Reliable partner
"Today we sign the
agreement with the institute named after Berezin about construction of the
PET-center, and it will work for free for all residents of the Tomsk region. It
is well-known enterprise which is engaged in this subject long ago and has
enormous experience. For the PET-center we allocated the platform around
experimental design bureau: here are developed both diagnostic, and clinical
base. The declared term – is 1,5 years", – the governor of the Tomsk
region Sergey Zhvachkin told.

As the chairman of the IIBS
board Arkady Stolpner explained, the volume of investment into the Tomsk
project is estimated at 500 million rubles, the center will accept about two
thousand patients a year.
"The main service which
the center will provide to patients, - is the diagnostic procedure on the
positron-emission tomography scanner combined with the computer tomograph. PET
is a method without which the modern oncology can't be presented. When we make
the diagnosis, we have to understand what the diagnosis is and at what stage it
is, depending on it the doctor registers treatment", – he added.
For residents of Tomsk
Zhvachkin noted that the
region is not the first year develops the system of fight against oncology. In
particular, the system of primary oncological help was modernized a few years
ago. For the second year in Tomsk works a radiological canyon.
"And it already yields
the results: on decline in mortality, possibility of early diagnosis of a
disease. <…> But our big chain lacks one link, which we are dealing with
for recent years, it is the PET-center. Thanks to it we will have a full system
on treatment of oncology", – the governor added.
As the governor noted, the
PET-center will be not the first private medical institution in Tomsk serving
patients according to policies of compulsory health insurance.
Stolpner added that the
organization plans to build similar objects in several cities of Siberia with
the basic center in Novosibirsk where production of the radiopharmaceuticals
necessary for work of the PET-centers will be also developed.

"We design the center in
Tomsk in such a way that if we see that in 7-10 years the need for such
research will grow – and it around the world grows – and to us it will be
inconvenient to carry medicines from Novosibirsk, then we will be able to build
the small room nearby, to establish a cyclotron and to produce
radiopharmaceuticals directly here (in Tomsk)", – he added.
In turn the deputy governor on
social policy Chingis Akatayev noted that in Tomsk there is no own PET-center,
residents of the region are forced to go for inspection to other regions, in
particular to Moscow and Krasnoyarsk.
"In many cases we have to
deal with people who already have new growths at the third or fourth stage when
treatment has weak effect. At detection of cancer at the first or second stage
modern methods of treatment allow to cure cancer or to transfer it into rather
permanent remission", – Akatayev emphasized.
