Tomsk. The otter-mascot of Finswimming World Cup which will
take place in the summer of 2017 in Tomsk, received a new name – Lastik, the
press service of the regional administration reports on Tuesday.
Earlier it was reported that the otter named Tomik,
invented by a student of Tomsk State University Ekaterina Bocharova, was chosen
as the official mascot of the Finswimming World Championships, which will be
held in Tomsk from July 31 to August 6, 2017. Later, the regional
administration announced a contest for a new name for the otter -
"Tomik" turned out to be a patented Tomsk company that produces
children's toys.

"Residents of the cities and districts of the
region offered the mass of names for the otter: from Tomdra and Zaplyvaka to
Ushay and Lastasia. By a majority vote the Finswimming World Championships
mascot get the name Lastik", – the press service quoted the head of the
information policy department of the administration of the Tomsk region Alexey
Sevostyanov.
It is specified that about 150 people participated in
a new competition.
Earlier it was also reported that the invented by
Bocharova wolf football player Zabivaka became the mascot of the FIFA World Cup
which will be held in Russia in 2018. Russians chose it in a voting process,
more than 50% of votes were cast for the wolf.
