Speaking about urban demography, Klein said that at the end of 2016 the
population in Tomsk was 594 thousand people. At the same time, he noted that in
recent years in the city the natural and migration gain in population is noted.
This, in his opinion, indicates the attractiveness of the city for life.
"Contrary to those who like to speculate at leisure that the promising
youth leaves our city, the statistics say the opposite. Our city grows, and
average age of residents of Tomsk is 36,6 years today", – Klein told.
At the same time the mayor emphasized that such "temperature" of
demographic health is promoted in many respects by the most powerful Tomsk
scientific and educational complex, recognized not only in Russia, but also in
the world.
There are six universities in Tomsk, every eighth resident of the city - is
a student. In December 2015, the trademark "Tomsk - is the Student Capital
of Russia" was registered, the owner of which was the city administration.
