appear on the basis of Tomsk State University (TSU); the undergraduate student
of the TSU Humanitarian Problems of Informatics Laboratory Nikita Chernov
offered to organize it, the idea was supported by the "Initiative
Vector" of the university.
Earlier it was reported that since June 2016,
computer games in Russia were officially recognized as a sport.
According to Chernov, currently in the Tomsk
region there are about 1000 computer sports professionals, half of whom - are
the students of TSU, showing very good results. With the appearance in the
university of their own e-sports team, according to the author of the idea, on
the basis of the Faculty of Physical Education it will be possible to open a
new educational program related to computer sports.
"Cybersport – is one of the most urgent
and promising areas in the information society. Today, many US universities can
boast of their e-sports teams which regularly participate in interuniversity
leagues. This is why the development of e-sports - as the sport of the future –
should be one of the tasks of TSU", – Chernov told RIA Tomsk.

He said that the university plans to begin a
detailed study of the "Cyber TSU" project in September, then dates of
purchasing of the necessary equipment, holding selection games and competitions
for the logo and the name of the future team of cybersportsmen will be
determined. Then the team will be formed, trainings will begin. The
presentation of the team will be in the format of exhibition game.
As reported on the website of "Initiative
Vector" TSU, before the launch of the project it is to be coordinated with
the Department of Informatization and the Federation of Computer Sport of the
Tomsk region.
"Initiative Vector" – is the platform
for gathering and public discussion of initiatives for the development of Tomsk
State University and the university environment.
