TOMSK, Aug 2 – RIA Tomsk. Athletes of the Russian national
team in the first day of the Finswimming World Junior Championships won seven
medals: four gold, one silver and two bronze. Results of the first day of the
competition – in the material of RIA Tomsk.
Earlier it was reported that the 15th Finswimming World Junior Championships
officially opened in Tomsk on August 1. Competitions will be held until August
6. To participate in the Championships, about 300 athletes from 25 countries of
the world were registered. The main heats will be held in the center of water
sports "Zvezdniy", a marathon (4x2 km relay race and 6 km race) will
take place on the lake Rozhnevo near Tomsk.
On Wednesday seven sets of medals were played in Tomsk swimming pool Zvezdniy.
First victories
The first gold of the Russian national team was brought by Ekaterina
Mikhaylushkina from the Yaroslavl region, who became the best in the discipline
"swimming in fins, 100 meters". Andrey Avdyushkin won a bronze medal
in the same discipline.
Mikhaylushkina was the bronze medalist of the CMAS Finswimming World Cup 2016.
At the Championships in Tomsk she swam 100 meters for 00.38,79. Elizaveta
Vakareva from Ukraine took the second place with the result of 00.40,96.
Frenchwoman Margot Le Flem (00.41,49) became the third.
As Mikhaylushkina told journalists, it is very important to her that she became
the first winner of the Championships.
"It's very important for me. The organization (of competitions) is
insanely cool ... The fact that the competition is held in Russia is a great
honor for us ... Native walls help, of course ... I want our guys to win medals
... There were thoughts (during a race), that I couldn't let down the coach, I
need to show a good result and be the first", – she added.

Among young men in this discipline, Yakub Kovarik from the Czech Republic took
the first place (00.36.68). Silver was taken by Gan Yong Khan (00.36.81) from
South Korea. Kemerovo resident Avdyushkin showed the result of 00.37.22 and
became the third.
Winners were awarded by the head of the Tomsk region Sergei Zhvachkin, who
heads the organizing committee of the Championships, and the President of the
World Underwater Federation Anna Arzhanova.
"In my opinion, these are the best finswimming competitions that have been
held over the past few years ... We expect that the performances will be very
good. We plan to take the first team place in the unofficial standings and
think that we will manage to do this", – Arzhanova told reporters.

In the discipline "swimming in classic fins, 100 meters" the best was
Russian Alexey Fedkin (00.43,02), the second place at the resident of
Novosibirsk Daniil Kolosov (00.43.51), the third – at Marcin Lukovic from
Poland.
Elena Lopatina from Yaroslavl with the result of 03.18,73 was the best in a
heat for 400 meters. The second place is at Seren Esilbas from Turkey, the
bronze is at Johanna Shikora from Germany.
Among young men Alex Mozar (03.02,37) from Hungary became the first, Alexey
Zakharov (03.02,63) from Ukraine took the silver, Alexander Khudyshkin
(03.09.02) from the Sverdlovsk region took the third place.
n the final mixed relay 4x100 meters, the Russian team took the first place,
overtaking rivals for one second. The second place is at athletes from Hungary,
the third – at the Czech finswimmers.
