© с сайта Томского политехнического университета TOMSK, Oct 16 – RIA Tomsk. Professor of Department of General
Physics of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) Olga Gromova is the winner of
scholarship "For Women in Science" created by UNESCO and L'Oreal
company; scientist got 500 thousand rubles grant on researches of molecules
properties and right to represent Russia at international stage, press service
of TPU reports.
It is specified that L’OREAL-UNESCO
is a joint project of UNESCO and the L'Oreal company. The scholarship program
is intended for female scientists aged up to 35 years working at the Russian
scientific institutes and universities in the directions of physics, chemistry,
medicine and biology. The project is implemented in Russia with assistance of
the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education and Science of
the Russian Federation.
"Professor of the Department of
General Physics of TPU Olga Gromova became the winner of the prestigious
scholarship program "For Women in Science" … Winners are 10 Russian
female scientists, they will get grants of 500 thousand rubles for continuation
of the researches. Also winners of the national award will represent Russia at
the international stage of the competition", – it is said in the
statement.

It is noted that Gromova studies
fundamental properties of polyatomic molecules by methods of spectroscopy of
high resolution. The scientist investigates ranges in which molecules of any
substance absorb or radiate light – some kind of "fingerprints" of
each molecule. Results of such researches are used, in particular, in
astrophysics.
"All astrophysics is
constructed on ranges, researchers draw conclusions about the atmosphere on
other planets, about structure of stars and other celestial bodies according to
them… Our group is one of world leaders in the field of molecular spectroscopy
of high resolution... (We) developed new highly effective methods of research
of ranges, algorithms and programs for the analysis are created", – the
press service quotes Gromova.
It is specified that the awards
ceremony of winners of the competition L'OREAL-UNESCO will take place on
December 4 in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.
