TOMSK, Dec 21 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University (TSU) opened a research station at the largest swamp in the world – Vasyugan; the equipment for monitoring of the natural processes happening on the territory of Western Siberia will be installed, the press service of the university reports on Thursday.
Earlier it was reported that TSU planned to open a new research station for climatologists and biologists in 2017 in Bakcharsky district of the Tomsk region. It was supposed that the station will become base for carrying out scientific works and expeditions, and a tourist object.

According to the press service, at the end of 2017 the new stationary base "Vasyuganskaya" was created in the territory of the Vasyugan swamp, which entered the TSU megaprofile – the line of the research stations connecting the South and the North of Western Siberia.
It is noted that the new equipment of TSU is designed for a comparative analysis of information of two largest ecosystems: Vasyugan swamp and the territory of island distribution of permafrost in Western Siberia on which there is other TSU station – Hanymey (in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area). Data from the stations will allow scientists to predict development of the processes happening in Siberia.
"The ecosystem of the biggest in the world Vasyugan swamp is the stablest in Western Siberia. For this reason the station of monitoring is necessary in its territory which will allow to estimate the integrated, hardly noticeable global changes in dynamics of natural natural processes", – the research associate of TSU Sergej Vorobyov is quoted.
It is added that the TSU new base can become available to foreign scientists along with the high school stations "Aktru", "Kaybasovo" and "Hanymey" which are involved in the large-scale international program of researches and monitoring in the Arctic – INTERACT 2.
The Vasyugan swamp is one of the biggest in the world, its most part is in the Tomsk region, and also in the Novosibirsk and Omsk regions and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. It has all-planetary significance – reduces the concentration of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The territory of the swamp – is 5,3 million hectares. In 2007 the Vasyugan swamp was included in the preliminary UNESCO World Heritage List.
