TOMSK, Mar 19 – RIA Tomsk. Team of Tomsk State University (TSU) on computer safety SiBears became the absolute winner of the
international competition of hackers Capture The Flag – 2018 (CTF); now the
experienced part of team is waited by the internal international competition
RuCTF, the press service of the university reports on Monday.
It is specified that CTF ("Capture The Flag") is an eight-hour
competition which is held by the University of California in Santa Barbara.Teams
solve close to real hacker tasks – investigate services written in different
programming languages, look for vulnerabilities in them, correct and quickly
attack to be ahead of rivals for the allowed time. This year the victory was
won by the TSU SiBears team – students, employees and graduates of the
Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science of TSU.
"This year not only students of different universities of the world, but
also professional, skilled teams from the USA, Germany and other countries
which are in a top became rivals of SiBears, and it was necessary to fight for
the first place with them. <…> Organizers considered that everything was
correct – and we won iCTF 2018 rightfully", – the captain Oleg Broslavsky
is quoted.

It is noted that SiBears is an initiative of students where each member of the
team tries to develop in area of information technologies interesting to him or
her and computer safety. SiBears is also community which openly gives lectures
and trainings every week and
carry out free Sibears Young School for the second
year.
"We are glad that we manage to create an environment where it is
comfortable, pleasant and interesting to stay at the university on Saturdays
before its closing, to stay overnight during the competition – and to become a
popular expert in the sphere of IT. <…> Everyone has several offers from
the rival companies by the graduation", – the participant of SiBears
Aleksandra Murzina is quoted.
It is added that the experienced part of the SiBears team is waited at the
internal international competition RuCTF in April.
Earlier it was reported that the TSU SiBears team was included in the top ten,
having taken the eighth place in 2017 at the competitions iCTF which gathered
more than 300 college and professional teams from around the world.
