The EU to develop cooperation with Tomsk in the field of urbanism

TOMSK, Oct 8 – RIA Tomsk. The European Union (EU) countries intend to develop cooperation with the Tomsk region in the creation of "smart cities", academic exchange, as well as economic cooperation in the implementation of innovative developments, the ambassador of the European Union in Russia Markus Ederer told reporters on Monday.

Earlier it was reported that the ambassadors of 13 countries of the European Union (EU) to Russia, five deputy ambassadors and the head of the EU diplomatic mission to the Russian Federation will arrive to the Tomsk region to study the potential of the scientific and educational complex and agriculture of the region. The visit, scheduled from 6 to 8 October, is unprecedented in its scale for the regions of Russia.

"The purpose of our visit is simple – to strengthen relations in the business sphere, and in the field of university cooperation, and in the sphere of high technologies ... In the economic, scientific and technical sphere, our cooperation is already flourishing. But there are areas in which we can expand it", – Ederer noted.

Tomsk governor: turnover with the EU countries to be increased

"The goal of any policy – is to create a prosperous society and a better quality of life for humans. Therefore, those urban projects and urban development projects in which Tomsk is actively involved are of interest to the European countries ... The second direction is the path of bringing the scientific and research communities closer together", – Ederer noted.

He added that the European Union countries are also interested in establishing of direct contacts between Tomsk and European companies in order to shorten the path from the development of innovations and inventions and quicker turn them into technologies and specific business products.
