TOMSK, Oct 9 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) introduce the best Smart City technologies to improve the quality of life in the Tomsk region with the support of universities of Portugal, Italy, Denmark and the Netherlands; researchers create an electronic platform to engage residents in urban planning, the press service of the university reported on Tuesday.

Earlier it was reported that the authorities of the Tomsk region intend to make the region a pilot site for the new All-Russian project "Smart City". In 2017, the "Living Laboratory" project was created, whose team will develop a model of creative urban space within the boundaries of Vershinin, Usov and Lytkina streets in Tomsk. In September 2018, the recruitment of permanent participants to work on the project was started.

According to the press service, TPU launched a large-scale research project to introduce the most effective European Smart City technologies in the Tomsk region to improve the quality of life and attract local people to the development of the urban environment. With reference to the Vice Rector of TPU for External Affairs Liliya Kiryanova it is reported that polytechnicians will take the experience of Portugal, Italy, Denmark and the Netherlands as a basis.

"In my homeland, in Italy, in the EU as a whole, and here in Russia everyone understands how important the link between the university and the city. And the first part of the interaction within this project will be in the fact that we will share our experience and knowledge in order to understand how to improve the standard of living in this region for everyone", – the professor of Bocconi University (Italy) Rodolfo Baggio is quoted in the message.

It is noted that scientists intend to develop methods for the formation of urban communities, informing Tomsk citizens about the possibilities of "smart" technologies for using urban spaces. In addition, researchers will create an electronic platform to engage residents in urban planning.

It is added that the presentation of the TPU project took place the day before in the coworking center "Boiling Point" at a meeting of heads of Tomsk universities with the ambassadors of the EU countries and the head of the EU diplomatic mission to Russia Markus Ederer. The main subject was the experience of the international cooperation in the sphere of science.
