© РИА Томск. Павел Стефанский TOMSK, Dec 5 – RIA Tomsk. The rector of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) Petr Chubik,
called a great honor for all polytechnicians the win of the candidacy of TPU
graduate Nikolay Kamov in the Great Names of Russia project, in the framework
of which the name for the airport of Tomsk was chosen, the press service of the
university said on Wednesday.
Earlier it was reported that the candidacy of the
aircraft designer and TPU graduate Nikolay Kamov won a vote on the choice of a
name for the Tomsk airport, held in the framework of the project "Great
Names of Russia", the final voting results were summed up on December 4 on
the TV channel "Russia 1".

"Kamov’s victory - is a great honor for all
polytechnicians and TPU graduates. Before that names of our graduates could be
met only in Kemerovo, Magnitogorsk, and Alma-Ata universities. And now Kamov’s
name will met all visitors to Tomsk land", - the press service quotes Chubik.
It is also reported that the name of another
well-known TPU graduate - geologist Nikolay Urvantsev - was chosen by the
voting participants for Norilsk Airport. "Geologist Nikolay Urvantsev
founded Norilsk, mapped Taimyr, explored the Northern Earth. He is a well-known
Arctic researcher, doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences, honored
scientist of the RSFSR", - adds the press service of the university.
