decided on the main candidate for the post of rector: Ministry of Education and
Science of Russia will be offered to appoint Mekhman Yusubov, the director of
the Research School of Chemistry & Applied Biomedical Sciences, as the head
of the university, the representative of the university reported RIA Tomsk on
Friday.
Earlier it was reported that the authority of the Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) rector Petr Chubik expired on December 30, 2018. Now he is the
acting rector. About 20 people applied for the post of the rector, including
foreigners. At the finishing stage five candidates were considered, all
citizens of the Russian Federation. It was expected that the main candidate
would be chosen by the Supervisory Board of the university in the second half
of February.
"The Supervisory Board (of TPU) approved the only candidate (for the
post of the rector) – Mekhman Yusubov", – the interlocutor of the agency
reported.

He added that Yusubov’s candidacy would be proposed for approval to the
Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
Earlier it was also reported that since the university participates in the
federal "5-100" project, the election of the rector is canceled in
it. Under the current statute of the university, all applicants for the post of
rector must submit documents, including the recommendation of the Supervisory
Board to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation before
March 1, 2019.
Mekhman Yusubov was born in 1961 in the village of Algeti of the Georgian
SSR. In 1985 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Chemical Technology
of TPI (now TPU) in the specialty "Chemical Technology of Biologically
Active Compounds". He worked as the head of the department of chemistry at
Siberian State Medical University. Currently he is heading the TPU Research
School of Chemistry & Applied Biomedical Sciences. Doctor of Chemistry,
