TOMSK, Jun 19 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University (TSU) for
the year rose up to nine positions in the list of the world’s best
universities, having taken the 268th place in the authoritative Quacquarelli
Symonds (QS) rating; in five years TSU rose by 283 lines and now enters the 25%
of the strongest universities, the press service of the university reported on
Wednesday.
Earlier it was reported that TSU and Tomsk Polytechnic University in 2013
entered the 15 leading universities of the Russian Federation, which receive
additional funding to increase international competitiveness. By 2020, at least
five Russian universities should enter the top hundred the best universities of
the world. TSU took the 277th place in the 2018 QS ranking (in 2017 – the
323rd, in 2016 – the 377th), and TPU – the 373rd place (in 2017 – the 386th, in
2016 – the 400th).
According to the press service, QS agency published the next rating of the
best universities in the world. TSU took the 268th place in it, having improved
the last year’s indicator by nine points. The rating evaluates six parameters:
academic reputation, reputation among employers, citation index of scientific
publications, ratio of teachers to students, proportion of foreign students and
teachers.
"The fact that TSU not only improved its position, but entered 25% of
the strongest universities of the world, confirms the correctness of the chosen
vector for the formation of the university’s ecosystem and for the export of
educational technologies. Now these accents formed the basis of the world level
SEC (scientific education center – Ed.) creating in the region", – the comment
of the rector Eduard Galazhinsky is provided in the message.
It is noted that the strongest position of TSU – is the 29th place in the
world (increase of 14 points) – in terms of the ratio of the number of academic
personnel and the number of students. The university also ranked the 113th
place (increase of 21 points) in the proportion of foreign students. According
to the academic reputation TSU "grew up" by 19 points – this figure
is 40% of the total assessment of the university. In general, over the past
five years, TSU has risen by 283 positions/
As follows from the QS-2019 rating, Russia is
represented in it by 25 universities. Among them TSU ranks the fourth place,
TPU – the 11th (the 387th in the world). Moscow State University is again
recognized as the best of the Russian universities; in the world it occupies
the 84th place. The highest line in the list of the best universities of the
world at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
