TSU launched the admission campaign – 2019

TOMSK, Jun 20 – RIA Tomsk. The main stage of applications accepting from entrants began on Thursday at Tomsk State University (TSU). What innovations await incoming – in the material of RIA Tomsk.

Targeted education

As it is reported on Thursday on the TSU website, the fundamental difference of the admission campaign in 2019 is connected with the scope of targeted training. The innovation is dictated by changes in the federal law "On education" and "Regulations on targeted education".

This year TSU does not conclude agreements on targeted admission with organizations. Entrants have to do this by themselves and bring the relevant documents to the admission committee in order to participate in the competition for the allocated quotas.

According to the head of the New Recruitment Department of TSU Evgeny Pavlov, the innovation brings more difficulties not for applicants, but for organizations:

"Not everyone is ready to guarantee employment of graduates (a contract for targeted education implies mandatory employment after graduation. – Ed.), and managers fear such commitments. But this is natural - the first experience, no one has worked with these changes. We will be the pioneers and see how this year will affect overall enrollment rates for targeted training".

For their part, university specialists advise employees of partner organizations on new rules for concluding such contracts.

State-funded places

The number of state-funded places for the upcoming academic year remained at the level of last year – a little more than 3 thousand for all levels and forms of training (including the branch of Tomsk State University – Novosibirsk Law Institute). However, the number of state-funded places for the correspondence department has decreased, which is the all-Russian trend.

"This is the policy of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Everywhere there is a reduction of state-funded places for external students who receive the first higher education. In a number of areas – for example, it affected the law – part-time studies are now not provided at all. But if this is the second higher education, there are no restrictions", – Pavlov explains.

New educational programs

In 2019, new educational programs appeared at TSU. So, on a specialist programme "Legal Support of National Security" of Institute of Law (IL) will able to enroll 25 people for full-time and 17 for full-time and part-time.

On the bachelor degree program "Pedagogical Education" of Institute of Arts and Culture a new profile appeared – "Musical Art" – and another 10 state-funded places.

Among TSU new master programs there are "Intellectual and Digital Rights" at Institute of Law (IL) and "International Journalism in the World of New Media" at the Faculty of Journalism.

"Traditional leaders in the number of applications from entrants, as predicted in the admissions committee of TSU, will be jurisprudence, economics, international relations, foreign languages and chemistry. In recent years, especially in 2018, there has been a noticeable increase in interest in IT-specialties. So, the "Software engineering" direction overtook even lawyers in passing score and competition", – is said in the statement.

The deadline for accepting documents for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programs – is from June 20 to July 26, for foreign citizens and those who submit creative or traditional entrance tests – to July 10. On the correspondence form of study in bachelor degree and specialist programme documents will be accepted from 5 to 28 August.

In master's degree programme for all forms of education the acceptance of documents began on April 1 and will end on August 12.
