TOMSK, Jun 26 - RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University (TSU) entered the Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects in three areas: in group 101-150 in metallurgy, in group 401-500 in physics and in earth sciences, the press service of the university reported on Wednesday.
Earlier it was reported that the results of the ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2019 were published on Wednesday, June 26. This subject rating is published annually by the Asian agency ShanghaiRanking Consultancy. It is currently one of the world's leading university rankings along with the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and the QS World University Rankings.
It is reported that TSU was included in the group 101-150 in metallurgy, and for the third time entered the rating in physics (401-500) and the second time - in earth sciences (401-500).
"Classical university is traditionally strong in engineering and technical disciplines, since the TSU ecosystem itself is geared towards developing interdisciplinary, breakthrough areas of science, interaction with industrial partners. TSU scientists' developments are also carried out in international collaborations and are known worldwide", - the rector of TSU Eduard Galazhinsky is quoted in the message.

According to the university, in 2019 there are more than 1.7 thousand universities from 86 countries represented in the ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. Universities are ranked in 54 subjects in natural, engineering sciences, medical and social sciences.
Earlier it was reported that the subject rankings of universities of the world were published by the British agency Quacquarelli Symonds: "Humanities and Art", "Engineering and Technology", "Life Sciences and Medicine", "Natural Sciences", "Social Sciences and Management" (number of disciplines in them - 48). TSU positions are marked in 32 disciplines. The university achieved the greatest breakthrough in the humanities in the study of modern languages, moving into the group 101-150.
TSU and Tomsk Polytechnic University in 2013 entered the "5-100" project, to the participants of which additional funding to increase international competitiveness is allocated. The university’s entry into the top 100 by subject ratings in world rankings is an important criterion for the system of university assessment in this project.
