TOMSK, Nov 25 – RIA Tomsk. Students from Finland, India, Ecuador, China, Thailand and Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU) will offer solutions to transport problems in Tomsk at the International Science School of Big Data at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), the press service of the university reported on Monday.

“The International Science School of Big Data “Transport for a Smart City - Sustainable Innovation Using Big Data Technologies" started at TPU. Its participants were international student teams who will work on solving transport problems of a smart city for several days”, - is said in the statement.

It is noted that students and teachers of VAMK University of Applied Sciences (Vassa, Finland), INRTU and polytechnic students from India, Ecuador, China and Thailand will be divided into four international teams, including representatives of various fields of knowledge - this method is more effective in solving urgent problems of smart cities.

“The most ideal option - is when cooperation occurs at the junction of different specialties. It often happens when people who are involved in transport have certain tasks, many ideas, but there is no way to draw them up most effectively. Therefore, it’s very good that our students can get new experience", - the technical director of the INRTU Transport Laboratory Alexey Levashev is quoted.

The purpose of the case - is to optimize the passenger flow of a smart city. Teams with GPS trackers will track the movement of popular student routes in Tomsk, then the collected data will be converted into a format convenient for analysis. As a result, students will have to build a three-dimensional model that takes into account transport planning and analysis of congestion at rush hour, the press service said.

It is added that in the final the participants will be presented with ready-made solutions for optimizing the routes and passenger flows of Tomsk. The results of the projects will be announced on Monday, December 2.

The School is being held at TPU within the framework of the implementation of the international agreement "Discovering New Perspectives in Siberia" of the First+ academic mobility program. The main goal is to popularize knowledge in the field of processing and analysis of big data, closed-loop economics and the formation of students' skills in working in an interdisciplinary international team to solve practical problems.

Tomsk Polytechnic University - is the leading technical university of the country. It's founded in 1896 as Tomsk Technological Institute of Practical Engineers of Emperor Nicholas II. It became the first engineering university in the Asian part of the country. Today TPU - is the largest technical university beyond the Urals; enters the top 10 universities of Russia and the top 400 universities of the world. Since 2013 participates in the "5-100" program to increase competitiveness in the world.
