TOMSK, Dec 2 – RIA Tomsk. The governor of the Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin congratulated the team of Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk LLC which was engaged in construction on the launch of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline on Monday - the facility was put into operation on December 2 by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to Izvestia, on Monday, December 2, the opening ceremony of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline was held. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have launched the supply of Russian natural gas to China via teleconference from Sochi, Beijing and from compressor stations in the Russian Federation and China.

"Gazprom - is the world's largest energy company. And the fact that it was the Tomsk gas workers who were entrusted with the responsibility for the construction of the Power of Siberia - is not an accident, but a regularity. Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk - is the eastern outpost of Gazprom and the supplier of personnel for the entire gas industry", - the press service of the administration of the Tomsk region quotes Zhvachkin’s congratulations.

The release adds that the Power of Siberia will ensure the supply of Russian gas to China for 30 years. The capacity of the pipeline will range from 5 billion cubic meters of energy per year at the initial stage and to 38 billion in the future.

Historical background

In May 2014, Gazprom OAO and the Chinese CNPC signed a contract for the supply of 38 billion cubic meters of gas per year to the Celestial Empire. In order to implement the agreement, it was decided to build the Power of Siberia gas pipeline. The project aims to create a common gas transmission system for the Irkutsk and Yakutia gas production centers and transportation of gas of these centers through Khabarovsk to Vladivostok, and from Vladivostok - to China.

The construction of the gas pipeline, which began in 2014, was carried out by the Tomsk subsidiary of Gazprom, Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk OOO. The construction cost amounted to 770 billion rubles. Many enterprises and universities of Tomsk supplied the equipment necessary for construction, provided infrastructure and trained personnel. Micran, Tomsk Cable Plant, Tompromtrans OOO, Tomsk Electromechanical Plant, Tomsk Polytechnic and Siberian State Medical University contributed to this.
