The regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society to organize a large-scale international festival of travelers in Tomsk in 2020, where famous travelers and travel bloggers from different countries will be invited, the first deputy chairman of the Tomsk regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society Evgeny Kovalevsky said on Friday.
"Now we are discussing the holding of a large-scale international festival of travelers next year. For now, we are only thinking who we will invite, but, of course, these will be the best travelers of Russia, and there are drafts for foreign travelers and representatives of Geographical Societies", - Kovalevsky said, adding that the festival will be held in Tomsk in the fall of 2020.
He noted that there are already preliminary agreements with famous polar explorers, for example, Vladimir Chukov - the only person in the world who made four autonomous trips to the North Pole, and Mikhail Malakhov, who, along with Canadian Richard Weber, made a unique autonomous trip from Canada to the North Pole and back, for which he was awarded the Hero of Russia title.

Kovalevsky added that Tomsk citizens will also be able to meet such travelers as Sergey Shcherbakov, Anatoly Kulik, Oleg Volynkin, Vasily Elagin and the "cycling round the world" Egor Kovalchuk. “Fyodor Konyukhov gave us consent many times, but he is so immersed in his own projects ... We will wait for him, but we’re not sure that we will see him”, - he said.
Member of the Federal Commission of the Russian Geographical Society for Tourism Development Yulia Kalyuzhnaya, in turn, noted that at the festival there will be not only travelers, but also well-known Russian and foreign travel bloggers, as well as travelers-researchers.
The Tomsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society was established in 1948. Its main goal is to popularize knowledge about various regions of Russia and abroad. In addition, the society supports various expeditions. The board of trustees of the Tomsk branch is headed by the governor of the Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin.
