TOMSK, Sep 2 – RIA Tomsk. The organizers of the Tomsk marathon decided to postpone it to June 13, 2021 in connection with the extension of the self-isolation regime in the region and the unstable epidemiological situation, the director of the marathon Alexander Gordievskikh told RIA Tomsk on Wednesday.
Earlier it was reported that in 2020 the marathon was originally planned to be held on June 13, however, due to restrictions imposed in the Tomsk region due to the spread of COVID-19, the event was postponed to October 4. At the moment, the self-isolation regime in the region has been extended until September 30, mass events in the premises remain banned.
As Gordievskikh explained RIA Tomsk, the marathon was postponed again - this time to June 13, 2021 - due to the unstable epidemiological situation in the region.
"It was postponed due to the fact that the governor issued an order to extend the regime until September 30", - the agency's interlocutor said.
According to the data on the official website of the marathon, more than 1.7 thousand people are currently registered to take part in races at different distances.
It was also previously reported that as of September 2, 5 795 cases of COVID-19 infection were registered in the Tomsk region (47 of them - in the last 24 hours), 4 777 people recovered, 69 died. The prevalence rate of the new coronavirus infection was 1.57 as on September 2.
The first Tomsk International Marathon was held in 2018, more than 1.6 thousand athletes took part in it. In 2019, more than 4 thousand people applied for participation in the competition. The marathon track is laid along the historical and architectural center of Tomsk. A Grand Prix with a prize fund has been established for amateurs.
