TOMSK, Nov 5 – RIA Tomsk. The bilingual teaching project starts at the Faculty of Physics of Tomsk State University (FP TSU); lectures in English and Russian will help to raise the level of foreign language proficiency among students, as well as create a database of training videos in complex disciplines, reported on the website of the university on Thursday.
It is specified that experienced teachers of Faculty of Physics will deliver a lecture in English, and their younger colleagues will simultaneously translate into Russian. The project is aimed at solving the tasks of the "Education" national project and the strategy of social and economic development of the Tomsk region, according to which by 2025 the number of foreign students in Tomsk will increase to 22-25 thousand.
"Thus, the faculty plans to simultaneously raise the level of English proficiency among students and attract foreign applicants, as well as create a base of lectures in complex disciplines. Lectures with simultaneous translation into Russian will go online, on two audio tracks, and then remain available in the recording for students", - the message said.

It is added that the first bilingual lectures will be held this semester for the 2nd and the 3rd year students, as well as for students of the inter-faculty cross-disciplinary module "Quantum". In total, 16 lessons are planned in five disciplines: methods of mathematical physics, nonlinear equations of mathematical physics, classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics and statistical physics. Disciplines were deliberately chosen from the most difficult.
“In the future, we plan to broadcast this experience to other technical faculties of TSU and put together a full-fledged educational module for foreign students, since we see that they have an interest in the physical profile of TSU”, - the dean of the Faculty of Physics of Tomsk State University Sergey Filimonov is quoted in the message.
