RIA Tomsk. A new device developed by
Tomsk scientists for the diagnosis of oncological diseases can detect COVID-19
with high accuracy and in a short time, the press service of the regional administration
said on Monday.
Earlier it was
reported that Tomsk scientists developed a sample of a gas analyzer (sensor gas
analysis system consisting of a set of semiconductor sensors and implementing
and implementing neural network data processing algorithms), which will
identify malignant tumors of the larynx and lungs at an early stage based on
samples of exhaled air and promptly select persons in need of detailed
examination.
"The gas
analyzer, developed by scientists of the Cancer Research Institute of the Tomsk
National Research Medical Center and employees of the Laboratory of Chemical
Technologies of Tomsk State University (TSU), has shown excellent results in
the determination of coronavirus pneumonia", – is said in the statement.
It is specified
that the multisensor diagnostic complex analyzes the composition of the exhaled
air. During additional studies, it turned out that the device, analyzing
samples of the patient's exhaled air, with high accuracy allows detecting
pneumonia (98%) and coronavirus infection (93%).
"It takes
an average of five minutes to make a diagnosis. The accumulation of initial
data and their systematization in combination with neural network technologies
can lead to the creation of breakthrough solutions for the non-invasive
diagnosis of a number of diseases", – the developer of the technical part
of the project, Doctor of Chemistry, Head of the TSU Laboratory Victor Sachkov
is quoted.
Tomsk scientists
are ready to start cooperating with companies that are interested in the
development and help to establish industrial production of gas analyzers, notes
the press service.
