The Tomsk region, which has revived the timber processing complex (TPC) in eight years, has become a leading supplier of timber to the countries of the Eurasian Union; in particular, the Tomlesdrev company occupies a large part of the chipboard market in Uzbekistan, the press service of the regional administration reported on Saturday.
It is clarified that the Governor of the Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin on Saturday held an offsite meeting with the largest timber producers in the region, where he discussed the work and prospects of the industry. The governor emphasized that in eight years the region had managed to revive the timber industry and almost the first in the Russian Federation to fulfill the president's task - to export not raw materials, but processed products.
“We have learned not only to process timber with the maximum added value, but also solved the problem of a sharp increase in the export of products. The Tomsk region has become a leading supplier of board production and timber products to the countries of the Eurasian Union, such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Today, the Tomlesdrev company due to the high quality of products, has gained the most part of the chipboard market in Uzbekistan", - Zhvachkin is quoted.
He also noted that Tomsk timber producers today harvest and process mainly not coniferous, but deciduous, low-value tree species, such as birch and aspen, which occupy 44% of the forest structure in the region. At the same time, only a thousandth share of round timber is exported from the Tomsk region today, almost everything is processed in the region.
“Therefore, let's leave it to the conscience of individual directors their shooting with the credits “Tomsk region”, made in some mountainous areas with other people's wagons. We live on the West Siberian Plain, and we have no mountains, just as we don't have round timber outflow. But there are impressive volumes of deep wood processing", - the governor is quoted.
Earlier it was reported that the export of products of the timber processing complex (TPC) from the Tomsk region accounts for 50.2% of the total. In 2020, timber industry products were exported for 141.5 million dollars (in 2019 - 180 million dollars). Of these, 67.8% fell on sawn timber, 23.2% on chipboard, 5.5% on fibreboard (MDF, OSB), 3% on veneer and plywood, 0.25% on round timber.
