TOMSK, Apr 2 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University (TSU), together with its industrial partner opened a
new design center Vertical intended for the implementation of projects in the
field of telecommunication systems, including mobile networks of the 5th
generation (5G), the university's website reported on Friday.
It is specified that the center was opened on the basis of the TSU
Engineering Center for Microwave Engineering and Technology with the
participation of the industrial partner AO NPP Radar mms. As stated on the
Radar mms website, the enterprise is engaged in the creation of radio and
electronic systems and complexes for special and civil purposes, airborne radio
and electronic equipment and so on.
"Within the framework of the national project for the creation of
domestic 5G communication networks, the implementation of which is entrusted to
the State Corporation Rostec, the design center Vertical together with the
Radar mms company intends to develop and organize mass production of equipment
for wireless data transmission, working on the basis of active phased antenna
arrays technology," the website says.
It is specified that the idea of creating a center is related to the need
of the Russian Federation in the development of sovereign technologies and the
creation of infrastructure platforms for their implementation, trusted
telecommunication systems, which are based on three main elements: communication
and data transmission equipment, electronic component base and software.
"A high level of cybersecurity of such systems can only be guaranteed
if both the integrated system itself and all of its elements are developed
domestically. <...> The Vertical design center is intended to become one
of the effective elements of the national innovation system, contributing to
the solution of security problems and import-independence of Russia," the
message says.
According to the press service, close cooperation has been established
between TSU and Radar mms research and production enterprise in the development
of modern electronic equipment for the markets of the Internet of things,
"smart city", unmanned transport systems and equipment for 5G communication
systems.
Earlier it was reported that in the summer of 2020, Tomsk became the first
city beyond the Urals where the MTS 5G test zone appeared – a pilot network was
launched by MTS PJSC on the basis of the business incubator of the Tomsk State
University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR) and Micran company.
