State University (TSU) will open an educational and cultural Internet
resource in German; the idea was supported by the Consul General of the
Federal Republic of Germany in Novosibirsk Bernd Finke, the university's
website reported on Wednesday.
"The III International
Scientific Forum "German Language at Tomsk State University: 120 Years
of Success Story" started at the TSU Research Library. At the opening of
the forum the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in
Novosibirsk Bernd Finke noted the merits of TSU in teaching the German
language and supported the creation of the educational and cultural
portal DIF in German at the TSU site", – says the report.
It
is specified that the new DIF project will be useful for people
interested in Russian-German relations. Finke, commenting on the idea of
the resource, said he hopes that TSU will become a center of excellence
in German studies in Siberia.
As noted on the website of
the university, the forum is timed to coincide with the 120th
anniversary of teaching German language at TSU: it dates back to 1901
when the first competitive lecture of Master Arthur Gleye was delivered
in German at the Imperial Tomsk University. However, scientific ties
between Tomsk scientists and their colleagues from Germany existed even
before that, as German was the language of science at the time.
