Tomsk. The scientific and educational Game Studies profile
within which students will learn to create computer games from script writing
to promoting a ready-made product on the market will appear in Tomsk State University (TSU), the press service of the university reported on Thursday.
It is specified that now at the Russian universities
there are only separate courses or projects connected with the game industry.
TSU plans to create a separate scientific and educational profile in this
direction on the basis of Digital humanities magistracy where students will be
able to receive all skills necessary for developers of computer games: from
script writing to promoting of a game in the market.
"In Russia don't learn to create computer games
purposefully, and the existing examples – are rare. <…> Therefore in
practice, those who want to realize themselves in this area, often are – the
former gamers who study. And universities have to join in this process", –
the manager of the Digital humanities program Anastasia Haminova quoted in the
message.

According to her, analytical researches in the field
of computer games are conducted in TSU about 15 years. The program of training
includes a course on the theory and practice of computer games, basics of
graphic design, 3D-modeling, programming. Further courses on detailed study of
a game concept, game "cursors", monetization of projects will be
added.
It is noted that Game Studies – is not simply
intellectual entertainment. Studying of computer games from the point of view
of their influence on society, on culture is necessary for both the culture,
and developers.
