TOMSK, Dec 13 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk State
University (TSU) received megagrant of the Government of the Russian Federation
of about 90 million rubles on creation of the center of world class for the
analysis of data of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the European
Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the press service of the university
reports on Wednesday.
Earlier it was reported that TSU
scientists thanks to the radiation-hardened detectors developed by them,
entered group of the ATLAS project which is executed on the LHC in CERN. Within
the experiment researchers are engaged in search of superheavy elementary
particles, such as Higgs boson.
"The TSU group received a grant
of the Government of the Russian Federation under the resolution No. 220 on
creation of the center of a world class for the analysis of data of the Large
Hadron Collider in CERN (Switzerland). The project is estimated for three
years, about 30 million rubles will be annually directed to its realization",
– it is said in the statement.

It is noted that the megagrant will
become continuation of scientific work of the TSU research group in
collaboration ATLAS where the Tomsk scientists investigate processes of
disintegrations of Higgs boson. Now this research is one of central in the
program of high energy physics as it is the last open fundamental particle.
Besides, researches will allow to answer some questions of emergence of the
Universe.
It is specified that the Centre of
data analysis of the experiment ATLAS will be created within the megagrant
until 2020 in TSU. For this purpose the scientists will develop and create a
cluster for data analysis on the basis of the university supercomputer SKIF
Cyberia. Also the Centre will be equipped with prototypes of the charged
particles operating in CERN detectors. TSU scientists Alexander Hodinov and
Alexander Vanyashin will become key employees.
"I am very glad that we managed
to win in this prestigious competition, and would like to thank the management
and employees of TSU for the put trust. This grant will allow to expand
considerably participation of TSU in the analysis of data of ATLAS experiment
on the Large Hadron Collider on an equal basis with leading universities of
Europe and the USA", – the head of the grant Dmitry Tsybyshev is quoted.
