cooperation with the universities of St. Petersburg (SPbU), Oslo and Tromsø
(Norway) will develop new training programs in biophotonics; they will be
possible to be attended by undergraduates and graduate students from different
countries, is reported on the website of the university on Tuesday.
It is specified that TSU has been conducting scientific research in the field
of biophotonics for many years, and in 2017 the training in Master's program
has been started. Multidisciplinary educational project, aimed at developing of
additional competencies for specialists who will create new tools for
contactless diagnosis of biological tissues.
"The project Optical Probe Sensors at Biological Environments (OPS@BE) is
designed for 2018-2020, the main executors are the University of Tromsø
(Norway) and TSU in cooperation with network partners, Saint-Petersburg State
University and University of Oslo", – the project coordinator from the
Russian side, the employee of the TSU Faculty of Physics Vladimir Pomogaev is
quoted in the message.

It is noted that each partner will bring the best he has in the project. For
example, Norwegian participants are one of the leaders in the development and
application of computer methods for modeling of biological systems and
calculating the parameters of nonlinear optical properties. Together with the
powerful school of theoretical modeling of molecular systems, TSU has modern
experimental equipment.
"The use of photonics to solve scientific and applied biomedical problems – is one of the modern trends. The whole world is working in this direction, as
biophotonics helps to bring medical care to a qualitatively new level", – the director of strategic academic unit "Institute of Biomedicine"
Yury Kistenev are quoted on the website.
It is added that in 2018 the universities will be engaged in the creation of
joint educational courses, which in the long term should form the basis
of the master's program of a double diploma with Norwegian universities, and also
develop programs for seminars, summer and winter schools. Masters and graduate
students not only from the universities participating in the project, but also
from any other university of the world can apply for studying.
