TOMSK, Oct 20 – RIA Tomsk. Employee of the TSU Scientific Research Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (SRI AMM TSU) Maxim Orlov became the chief editor of the special issue of the English-language journal Advances in Mechanical Engineering (AIME); devoted to the study of solids behavior under shock and explosive loads, the press service of the university said.

A guest editor in scientific journals of this level, the press service explains, must be highly qualified as a scientist, have publications of his significant articles or books, and experience in reviewing in international journals.

"An employee of the Scientific Research Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics of Tomsk State University (SRI AMM TSU) Maxim Orlov became the editor-in-chief of a special issue of the English-language scientific journal AIME in the British office of the American scientific publishing house SAGE ... Orlov will be co-edited by professors Ahmed Brara (Algeria) and Vizakh Manyan (India)", – the statement said.

It is added that the topic of the special issue coincides with the traditional direction of research of the Department of Mechanics of Deformable Solids of the SRI AMM TSU – the study of the behavior of solids under shock and explosive loads.

Scientific research in this direction is of practical value for the rocket and space industry, the military-industrial complex, the Russian Emergency Ministry, Rosatom and other industries. The work of scientists is also in demand in the civil sphere: for example, there is a need to create shock-resistant protections for nuclear reactors.

"The special issue will publish new scientific results obtained both theoretically (using modern means of numerical modeling and analytical techniques) and experimentally (using modern experimental installations, including light gas)", – Orlov is quoted in the message.

According to the press service, Maxim Orlov is a candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, editor of five volumes of conference proceedings at AI Publishing (USA) and IOP Publishing (UK). He was the editor of Special Issues in Thermal Science (Serbia) and research supervisor of seven scientific projects supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises, Federal Targeted Programme "Scientific and Scientific-Pedagogical Personnel of the Innovative Russia-2013", a grant from the Research Center "High Energy Physics and Chemistry".

AIME is an open access peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research papers as well as review papers in all areas of mechanical engineering.
