TOMSK, Jan
27 – RIA Tomsk. The Institute of Art and Culture of Tomsk State University (IAC
TSU) plans to equate design education at IAC with the level of the British
Higher School of Art and Design; TSU signed an agreement with the private
University for the Creative Arts Universal University, work has already begun,
director of the institute Dmitry Galkin told reporters.
According
to open sources, the British Higher School of Art and Design is part of the
private University for the Creative Arts Universal University. It was created
in 2003 in Moscow as an alternative to the standard university design
education. "Britanka" is a partner of the University of Hertfordshire
(UK) in the field of art, design, advertising and marketing
As Galkin
clarified, TSU signed a cooperation agreement with Universal University, within
the framework of which it is planned to change the approach to the training of
designers at the university. This is done so that current and future TSU
students can count on high-quality and relevant education, which provides a
greater market entry. In addition, the reputation bonuses that TSU will receive
from the implementation of this idea are also important.
"The
maximum program we will have will be validation at the level of the British
Higher School of Art and Design, and the minimum program with which we are now
starting is the approximation of design education to international standards
together with teachers and experts from Universal University", – Galkin
said at a press conference at the RIA Tomsk media center.

According to
the director of Universal University Ekaterina Cherkes-zade, TSU turned out to
be the most daring among Russian universities, which preferred an alternative
way of developing of design education. A private university postulates a
student-centered education, and this approach is very different from what is
practiced in Russian universities.
"The main
competition of educational programs is not at the level of "what do you teach",
but "how you do it", and in this sense, the student's experience becomes the
head of everything that happens at the university. Therefore, we start with TSU
not with educational programs in designd, but from a large-scale faculty
retraining program. It is they who will reshape the educational
landscape", – she said.
According
to Galkin, 2021 is symbolic for TSU declared the year of creative industries.
The Institute of Art and Culture continues to actively expand its partner base.
In addition to Moscow private University for the Creative Arts Universal
University, large-scale projects are planned with Novosibirsk State
Conservatory named after M. I. Glinka and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine
Arts.
