TOMSK, Dec 25 – RIA Tomsk. The anniversary championship Russian Finswimming Championship will be held in Tomsk in the spring of 2019; it is expected that about 350 athletes will take part in it, the press service of the regional administration reported on Tuesday.
It is specified that the competition will be held from May 15 to 20 at the Water Sports Center "Zvezdniy".
"Approximately 350 athletes from different regions of the country are expected to participate. At the beginning of 2019, it is planned to upgrade the equipment in "Zvezdniy", including installation of a modern screen in the 50-meter pool bowl and upgrading the commentary booths. In addition, the corporate style of the Russian Underwater Sport Championship is developed", – is said in the statement.
According to the deputy governor of the Tomsk region on domestic policy Sergei Ilinykh, the Russian Championship can be called a kind of exam for Tomsk citizens before the 2020 Finswimming World Championship. Earlier it was reported that the World Underwater Federation (CMAS) approved the holding of the Finswimming World Championship in Tomsk in the summer of 2020.

"The Tomsk region is famous for its finswimming school for the whole world. In 2019, our region will host the 50th anniversary Russian Finswimming Championship, and these competitions will be the dress rehearsal for the biggest tournament - the 2020 World Championship, which will also be in Tomsk ", - Ilinykh is quoted in the message.
As RIA Tomsk reported, in 2017 in Tomsk was held the 15th CMAS Finswimming World Junior Championships. About 300 junior athletes from 25 countries participated in the competition. The Russian team took 35 medals: 16 gold, nine silver and 10 bronze.
