TOMSK, Jun 24 – RIA Tomsk. Young documentary filmmakers from Tomsk, St. Petersburg, the USA, and students of Kislovka secondary school (Tomsk region) received the grand prix and special prizes of the Pereprava festival of student's documentaries, organized by Higher School of Journalism of TSU, one of the organizers and jury member Nikolai Konovalov told RIA Tomsk on Monday.
Earlier it was reported that the first documentary film festival Pereprava was held in Tomsk in June 2018. Among participants of Pereprava-2019 there are more than 60 young documentary film makers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Irkutsk, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk, Shadrinsk, Sergiev Posad, Rostov-on-Don, Tomsk, as well as the USA and Germany.
It was also reported that 18 documentaries were on the short-list of the festival.
As Konovalov said, the ceremony of awarding the best documentary film makers took place the night before. Prizes and special prizes were awarded to five works.
"We planned that we will have four prizes, but when we began to sort out the work, we realized that we need another one. Thus, we handed five prizes", – he said.
Everyday affairs and talk about love
Two special prizes were taken at once by Tomsk residents – TSU student Dana Sandalova and pupils of a film studio at Kislovka secondary school.
"The movie of Dana – "Everyday Affairs" – is a sad story about old age and loneliness, very cleverly constructed from a dramatic point of view. There are two absolutely contrasting lines that then suddenly come together at one point", – the interlocutor of the agency commented.
The film from Kislovka "At the back desk all we have to do is talk about love" tells about the relationship in the classroom.
"Why a special prize? Because the film has a very interesting structure, and it helped school students to sort out the relationships in the classroom. They used means of cinema to make some kind of bonus in their lives", – Konovalov said.
Story from Chernobyl and revelations of daughters
Another special prize of the festival went to the United States to Florida State University.
"Blackwill Colby received the prize for the film "Motherland" about Chernobyl. They noted the picture not because this topic is now in trend, it is really a very cool and sincere film. The author went to Chernobyl and nearby towns, where he shot people’s stories who suffered from the accident", – the representative of the organizers of the festival added.
A grand prize of the jury received a documentary film by a student of St. Petersburg State University Aida Yavbatyrova "Daughters".
"Aida won us last year, and now get another prize. Obviously, this girl should be watched: maybe she will be a great documentary film maker. <...> "Daughters" – is a film that was built on frank interviews of daughters", – Konovalov commented.
Ghost of pioneer camp
The grand prix of the festival also went to a student from the northern capital. It was received by Anastasia Kozhevnikova from the St. Petersburg State Institute of Culture for the film "Quietened down Voices".
"She was shooting an amazing nature - an abandoned pioneer camp. Such a poetic shooting came out. She used the sound of those who once rested in this camp as the sound. We almost unanimously chose this film", – the jury member said.
Konovalov added that the young authors tried to express themselves in their films: "Documentary film is hardly the only opportunity to remain honest by engaging in screen art. They expressed themselves. Everything I saw was created absolutely sincerely".
According to him, the festival organizers plan to collect documentaries presented in the competition program on a single resource on the Internet, that is, everyone will be able to see them.
