Earlier it was reported
that in the Tomsk region eight cases of coronavirus infection were recorded,
three patients recovered. According to the regional authorities, the supply of
medical masks in the region is sufficient for medical institutions, but there
is a shortage in retail sales. It was also reported that scientists of Tomsk
Polytechnic University (TPU) developed a technology for the production of masks
using silver particles.
According to the press
service of the university, the antiviral effectiveness of the masks can be
increased by adding copper oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles to the medical
materials used in the production. Such particles, unlike silver nanoparticles
proposed by other researchers, are safer and less expensive.
"We sent a similar letter
signed by the director of the Engineering Chemical Technological Center (ECTC)
Alexey Knyazev to the Roskhimzaschita corporation, which is the federal
coordinating operator for providing the Russian regions with protective medical
devices", – the press service quotes the TSU vice-rector for scientific and
innovative activities Alexander Vorozhtsov.
The university also plans
to offer innovative technology to Tomsk enterprises engaged in the sewing of
protective masks, the press service said.
