TOMSK, Oct 15 – RIA Tomsk. The growing
effectiveness of international cooperation of Tomsk Polytechnic University
(TPU) allowed it to enter top 30 of QS British agency ranking compiled for
Eastern Europe and Central Asia for 2020; university is recognized as the best
engineering in Russia outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg, the university’s
press service said on Tuesday.
Earlier it was reported that Tomsk State
University and TPU improved their positions in the ranking of the British
agency QS, compiled for the countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia for
2020. At the same time, Tomsk Polytechnic University climbed five lines and
entered the top 30 list, in which 350 universities are evaluated.
It was also reported that universities are
evaluated by their reputation - academic reputation and reputation among
employers, ratio of scientific and pedagogical staff to students, number of
publications per employee, international scientific relations, effectiveness of
university online resources, proportion of employees with a PhD degree, number
of citations per article, proportion of foreign employees and students.
Relations with colleagues abroad
"Tomsk Polytechnic University
improved its position in three indicators: number of articles per employee,
effectiveness of Internet resources and international scientific relations. The
indicator "international scientific relations" was introduced in
2020. It reflects the effectiveness of international cooperation between
universities in the field of science, joint research with foreign scientists
and publication of articles", – is said in the report.
It is specified that TPU is a participant
of iconic international collaborations such as CERN, the European XFEL project
for creating a European X-ray free-electron laser, KEK National Accelerator
Laboratory (Japan), the International Arctic Siberian Scientific Center, ITER
(International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) and others.

As the press service notes, TPU is again
rated as the best Russian engineering university outside of Moscow and St.
Petersburg.
Success in the export of education
According to the press service, experts
also highly appreciated the level of TPU in the proportion of foreign students.
"Tomsk Polytechnic University, putting
into practice the concept of the Big University, is the leader in the number of
foreign students. According to this indicator, it is in the 2nd place in Russia
and in the 10th in the entire studied region (countries of Eastern Europe and
Central Asia)", – is said in the message.
Tomsk Polytechnic University – is the
leading technical university of the country. It's founded in 1896 as Tomsk
Technological Institute of Practical Engineers of Emperor Nicholas II. It
became the first engineering university in the Asian part of the country. Today
TPU – is the largest technical university beyond the Urals; enters the top 10
universities of Russia and the top 400 universities of the world. Since 2013
participates in the "5-100" program to increase competitiveness in
the world.
